I have been the customer of National Bank - Queen Mary branch for at least 30 years.
Till last 5 years ago the operations of the branch for me (retail customer) were quite satisfying.
Then the bank has started to introduce the changes. Availability of personnel diminished, waiting time has started to be longer, number of customers started to diminish (not surprising).
Luckily the new branch (on Monkland Av.) was opened and it worked bit better than Queen Mary. But lately Monkland has also ”rationalized” it’s operation.
I was in Monkland branch last week. No personnel at all. Only one receiving receptionist. Briefly “the glorified ATM”.
I was told that to withdraw the foreign cash I should go to Queen Mary branch.
I was at Queen Mary yesterday.
Arrived 14:35. Three persons were already waiting. Only one cashier. It took him 10 min to proceed the customer. Another customer – getting the cash – 20 min. Meantime 3 other persons arrived.
At 15:00 three other employees appeared (end of working day – were they preparing to go home?). They closed the doors – five persons still waiting. I was 2nd before the window. Finaly - at 15:15 I got my cash.
The explanations I received:
• There are new employees that are not fully operational:
• The computer network has frozen.
• “If you can pls. write the comment to Nat. Bank”
I was advised to use Cote-des-Neiges branch (about 2.5 km further).
Actually, the Queen Mary branch office looks like a store that is closing operations.
My dilemma: Should I stay with National Bank or go elsewhere - TD, Royal Bank?
Briefly: personal banking of National Bank in my area really STINKS.
For eventual new customers – avoid National Bank in NDG area. Go to competition.

The staff is very friendly
And great with assistance
If you have a staff member that is
Slower than average sometimes it’s a trainee. Just move to another line
That’s moving faster. If you’re in a hurry May I suggest you check their times on Google for slowest customer services.
The bank machines are open most evenings to use.easy wheelchair accessible. Thanks.

It’s actually scary how incompetent and rude they are at this branch. During my 20min stay there, I heard the teller refuse service to 3 customers because they weren’t at their home branch. They basically use that as an excuse to not do anything for loyal NBC customers and give incredibly poor customer service. It’s sad to see because I’m a long time NBC customer and I’ve always had overall great service from different branches. Just not this one.
